Recently, FLOC staff has had the opportunity to witness some of our extraordinary students and tutors be recognized in the local community. There are so many ways our tutors and volunteers continue to give back to our students. If you are interested in participating in a one-day service project at FLOC contact Trinishia Samuels at tsamuels@floc.org or (202)349-3530.
A former FLOC student at Garrison Elementary student who now attends Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson participated in a site visit that Chancellor Rhee, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Rep. George Miller (D-CA). His name is Chaka and he is featured at about 3:03 on the video, but the entire video is worth watching. It highlights the hard work going into improving the quality of the schools in the District of Columbia. You can view the video at this link. Way to go Chaka!
In response to the recent nomination of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Hispanic students at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School were asked to share their reaction to this historic event. Two FLOC students were featured in the ABC News story. FLOC is proud of these students and their eloquent responses to the questions posed. You can view the video at this link. Way to go Brenda and Cecilia!
FLOC Tutor and all-around supporter, Rachel Lerman blogged about her experience as a tutor at FLOC on The Huffington Post. We are humbled to have Rachel as a friend of FLOC. You can read her post at this link.
